Better than a facebook quiz/survey

1025742241If you go anywhere near facebook you’re probably aware of the sudden proliferation of quizzes designed to reveal “the truth” about us.

These surveys reveal secrets such as: what state you should you be living in; the decade you’d be happiest in; the character in Sesame Street you most resemble; your superhero name; the job you should really have; your personality profile; the celebrity you should be married to; the animal that most suits your personality; your character in Star Wars; your character in Downton Abbey……..

Good grief! I’ll tell you what I know about myself with one hundred percent certainty:

  • SurveyI know I should be living in North Carolina, right now in the 2010’s, and the only celebrity I’m even vaguely interested in is my amazing wife!
  • My superhero name is “Derek” (in Hebrew it means “The Way”)…
  • The job I should have is writer, so I can share the story of the good news of the Gospel of Love, and to live in the context of gratitude…
  • Oh, and the other answer is probably “Gonzo;” either that or “Grover.”

michelangelo-finger-of-god-lgGOD KNOWS ME! God made me – as God made each and every one of us – as the embodiment of a beautiful and creative idea; God knows exactly who I am at the deepest level; God loves me; and God has plans to work in and through the best possible expression of his creative work in and through each one of us.

Confidence in God’s good work – and its potential in us as individuals – is a beautiful place to be, and it is eloquently expressed through this sampling of thoughts from Psalm 139:

“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me…

You perceive my thoughts from afar…

You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me…

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea…

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you…

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…

When I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body…

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Rebekah ambushed me!

THE QUIZ THAT COUNTS: The real question, then, is how can I (how can you…) more completely align my innermost self with the Spirit of God? And how can I more effectively employ the particular gifts, and talents, and possibilities God has equipped me with, to live to the zenith of my potential as a Child of the Author of all Creation?

Now there’s a quiz for you – DEREK

  1. Heh Derek,

Yeah, I should be living here in Astor, at least for now. I like todays Scripture, I wrote a song with Psalm 139. Good words, God knows all……

    God Bless

  2. Ephesians 2:10 (For we are) I am God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for me (us) to do.
