encouragement, joy, and love – “Rally Day” 2015

WFPC – Baptism during worship September 13

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. – Philippians 2:1-2

It goes without saying that there is always a sense of purpose and enthusiasm at our church. But this Sunday – “RALLY DAY” – the excitement was ramped up considerably. Worship was vibrant, the seven “Creation Station” projects were well-received, and the “Opportunity Fair” in the CLC drew hundreds of interested perusers, signing up for classes, discipleship groups, service, and mission.

IMG_2463For me, the signal moment of the morning was the baptism during worship in the sanctuary (above). Hannah is old enough to understand the implications of the symbolic engrafting into God’s age-old covenant, and young enough for the promises made by her parents, and by the congregation, to be critically important.

As a church, we “rallied” around our commitment to be intentional in our discipleship; commissioning teachers, launching new initiatives, and singing our hearts out in praise of God. As individuals, we all renewed our affirmative response to God’s call on our lives, and our responsibility to live as children of light.

IMG_2465Wake Forest Presbyterian Church provides hundreds of people with a nurturing, encouraging, Christ-centered context to explore, to talk about, and to practice an ongoing, work-in-progress, journey of faith.

Our people all over the map when it comes to how we respond to many of the challenging issues that are the cause of so much conflict in our culture, and that divide many church bodies – but we’re united in our common commitment to follow Jesus, and to respond to the imperative of Love.

IMG_2436That’s what Rally Day means at WFPC; it means that we are choosing to bring our collective enthusiasm for the Gospel together, under the banner of Jesus, and that we are moving forward in joy!

  1. Thank you for this confirmation. I believe there was more than enough broken hearts on that day at calvary, though there was also a sense of comfort and victory. We must take this victory, rally around it and celebrate it and let it infect others. Aloha
