With the warmer weather here in North Carolina has come the rain. We’ve seen a lot of it over the past few days. Showers, a few thunderstorms, lots of clouds. Not great for yesterday’s Memorial Day picnic plans, but perfect for the garden.
Perfect for the hydrangea – which seem genuinely excited to be here and are just now beginning to bloom their hearts out. Perfect for the day lilies – plants that were not at all happy about our Florida garden. Perfect conditions for showcasing the colors ( I think we have at least six different variety of the hydrangea). Perfect for laying the groundwork for what is to come, as we are just now starting to see what is possible – with a lot of hard work and prayer.
I believe my writing is as much about what’s possible as what is. Of course, when I share about what is, then what’s possible comes into clearer focus. But there always has to be a forward inclination, a sense of where we are going from here.
Isn’t that the constant invitation of faith? Isn’t that the story of the garden?
When the angel showed John the vision of the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, doesn’t that promise ring true in part because we are already drinking from that same well of refreshment? Are we not even now planted by the river? And is not our responsibility – like that of the leaves – to work for the healing of this broken world?
When I see so clearly how God is working transformation in the lives of the people we love, and how the truth of it – the beauty of it – serves as both confirmation and invitation, then I can begin to see that anything is possible – with a lot of hard work and prayer.

Lovely photos, were about a week away from your flower blooms in Michigan. Day lilies are just now shooting up their stems. And the hydrangeas too!
