Do all things without murmuring and arguing, 15 so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine like stars in the world. 16 It is by your holding fast to the word of life that I can boast on the day of Christ that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. – Philippians 2:14-16
Today started off looking wide open and clear for some concentrated, uninterrupted, work. By the middle of the morning, however, it was clear that the real rhythm of the day would be more related to running errands, ironing out logistical details, unravelling medical billing, and other intrusions on my ability to concentrate.
That’s why I’m glad I always read the Bible before setting down to do any writing at all. I have some favorite places I tend to return to, but I also use a variety of tools to keep my interface with the scriptures as balanced as possible.
This morning, then, I was led back to Philippians Two, and I can’t think of a more helpful passage of scripture to ease my busy mind back to the fundamental purpose of my life as a follower of the Living Way of Jesus.
Don’t get caught up in negative thinking, Paul admonishes, but take the opportunity to shine like stars as you hold fast to the word of life.
Our imperative is to shine, eloquently and purposefully. What better marching orders could there be to launch any one of us into another new day!
