Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. – 1 Tim 6:17-19

If you’re wondering why it’s mid-afternoon and I’m just now posting, today has simply been too busy and there have been too many distractions. But who am I kidding, I doubt if anyone actually noticed. The Internet is much more interested in fake news, hyperbole, and salacious gossip than the contents of this blog!

Truth be told, I write for myself, not general consumption. It just happens to be an interesting phenomenon that so many people appear to value listening in. The point of this blog is reflection, and paying attention, and if my reflections benefit others too, then that’s an added bonus.

All of us are, essentially, on the exact same page when it comes to the road we’re traveling as followers of the way of Jesus. We may be in different places as regards doctrine, or the fine details of theology, but we could all use encouragement, and inspiration, and mercy, and grace. We could all benefit from time dedicated to contemplation, and devotion, and renewing our relationship with our Creator.

To the extent that people find any of that here, I guess that’s why so many come back so often.

Home Base:

You’ll notice today’s feature image is of our home; it’s the physical equivalent of what I hope to teach through this blog – a beacon of light pointing to life and grace and promise. This little house, nestled in the woods at the end of a cul-de-sac, is the retreat center and sanctuary where Rebekah and I are equipped to live “the life that is truly life” in a practical sense from day to day.

When I write, here at home, it’s from the perspective of a spiritual core rooted and nurtured in many beautiful years of love, laughter, nurture, devotion, and shared faith. Our home is a collective aggregate of peace on earth and goodwill to all people. It’s our prayer that visitors not only feel the spiritual bones of this sanctuary, but take some of it with them when they go.

My challenge at the end of this post is that we all cultivate the kind of home where our faith is strengthened, and where our love for one another accumulates to the extent that the place is awash with light and promise, and where others can come to be inspired and renewed.
