spring flowers and a grateful heart

Today I’m posting some more images. I’m still playing with the new camera (my Nikon D3400), and I’m excited about the spring colors here in Wake Forest. Plus there’s the tricky situation with the local street-gang of bad-boy (and girl) deer. They may be beautiful to look at but they’ve been vandalizing the flowers and I’m grabbing some photos while I still can.

Just yesterday evening one of the deer stood by the mailbox and chomped seven tulip buds before moving on to the azaleas. I know he’ll be back and probably with his friends so it’s now or never with the photographs.

Maybe it’s because it’s been cooler this year and spring is taking its time, but the emergence of color has been stunning, with a spectacular transformation over the past week. I still pinch myself sometimes, not quite believing we really live here even though this is our fifth spring in North Carolina.

But here we are. When I walked Scout at 7:00 is was forty-degrees. This afternoon it’s going to be sixty-one and sunny. Over the next few weeks this town is going to explode with seasonal color. I may be in my early sixties now, but sometimes I’m as excited as my grandchildren just to be alive!

Here’s my scripture verse for the day. It’s simply a celebration of God’s goodness and faithful love. Sometimes I wonder how I got to be so blessed as to be alive and enjoying such a good life!

[God] you go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand! – Psalm 139

Be encouraged, and be grateful I know I am – DEREK
