Life is beautiful (and difficult, and wonderful, and hard…)

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night. – Psalm 90:2,4

It is an absolutely beautiful Thursday morning here in Wake Forest. The sun is shining, the temperatures are pleasant, the humidity is down, and I’m up to my ears in meaningful work.

At the same time: my dad continues to struggle, I have friends who are dealing with difficult and overwhelming circumstances, the world is a mess, and our dog (Scout Labradoodle) is not well.

Life remains a study in contradictions. Life is good, it is difficult, it is hard, it is rewarding, it is challenging, it is inspiring, it is defeating, it is wonderful, it is frustrating, it is satisfying… it is all of these things and often at the same time.

This is why the first thing I want to do today is to point back to yesterday’s post – “Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts”. It’s the struggle, the moment-to-moment commitment to live faithfully, where we consistently find the most meaning, and triumph, and satisfaction.

So today, with a huge amount of important work on my plate, I’m simply going to post a few photographs for you to enjoy.

In love, and because of love – DEREK
