“Take two children and call me in the morning”

“The elixir of life!

Heading out to VBS

We have the grandchildren here this week. Five days of “Camp Grandparent” with two hours of Vacation Bible School every evening. So far it’s a hoot.

I’ve probably written about this before… but if the natural exuberance and joie de vivre (exultation of spirit) these children model was marketable as some kind of a supplement, then you know it would sell off the shelves. Like the women who sat at an adjacent table to Meg Ryan in the classic cafe scene in When Harry Met Sally – “I’ll have what she’s having.”

Along with all that, of course, comes all kinds of exhaustion – for all of us. But I watch them sleep, sacked out and contented within ten minutes of going to bed, and I realize how important it is to live without holding anything back if we want to rest well.

We were not designed for anything less than giving this life all we have. I think that’s why we find children so refreshing. When it comes to living they have no interest in half measures – they don’t know how. And neither should we.

Life really is a great adventure. A great adventure and a remarkable privilege.

Giving it all I’ve got for the God who gave everything for me – DEREK
