a masters degree, a call, and a brand new baby (plus 36 years)

we had the masters degree, a call to Pensacola, an 8-week-old baby, and hearts full of hopes and dreams...

The law of the Lord is perfect,
    refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
    making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right,
    giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes. – Psalm 19:7-8

1-IMG_E1472So here’s the campus of Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, where we lived and learned together while Rebekah finished up her M.Div. and prepared for the ministry. By the time we left (in the summer of 1982) we had the masters degree, a call to Pensacola, an 8-week-old baby, and hearts full of hopes and dreams -as well as the beginnings of a vision that has more than come into blessed fruition.

Of course we’re still learning, which is exactly why we’re here, and of course we are still wide open to being inspired, and equipped, and sent back into the world to shout the good news with passion and with even more assurance and confidence than we did when we first got the ball rolling.

It is a lovely setting. Fall is beginning to creep in, the grounds are in pristine condition, and the campus has that buzz about it that can only come from a couple of hundred young people preparing to serve God in the ministry of word and sacrament.

I will have more to share and a few photos from my Nikon in a couple of days. In the meanwhile, join me in thanking God for the witness of this place, and for the work being accomplished here to the promise of the future for the Presbyterian Church.

Peace and more – DEREK
