For those who appreciate the power and the beauty of great art, this post is for you. The images here are photographs that I took (with permission, by the way, and without using flash)… featuring amazing paintings crafted by one of America’s pre-eminent Twentieth-Century artists, Georgia O’Keeffe.
Creativity – and beauty – of this magnitude has the effect of simply washing over those who are fortunate enough, blessed enough, to experience it in person. Simply put, you need to go to the exhibit. The images I captured carry probably one-percent (or less) of the gravitas and the emotional impact of the works themselves.
O’Keeffe – for those of you who weren’t paying attention in your art-history class – is understood as the mother of American Modernism. She lived from the mid-1880’s through the mid-1980’s, impacting the art world as an iconic, masterful presence. She took Impressionism into the Twentieth-Century, applying her vision to the cityscape of New York, flowers you could almost crawl into, and the desert landscape of her beloved SouthWest.
The North Carolina Museum of Art is an amazing location that I am sure we will return to again and again. Art is good for the soul. Enjoy these images.
