Faith at the Speed of Life – “Be Instant”

Be ready to spread the word whether or not the time is right. Point out errors, warn people, and encourage them. Be very patient when you teach. – 2 Tim 4:2

1-dsc_0452Saturday afternoon, standing in the kitchen for a few minutes waiting for the kettle to boil for tea, I picked up my camera and watched the birds.

So I gave myself a time limit – five minutes shooting, make the pot of tea, then get back to my writing. Not a bad result considering. Now I’m wondering what might be possible if I ever have the patience to wait around.

But standing around all day isn’t reality. Most of the time we have to engage life “on the fly” – and that’s true if I want to grab a couple of photographs or if I want to apply my faith to whatever is going on around me.

There’s a scripture that speaks to this quite powerfully. “Be instant” the King James translates the passage. Live the Good News out loud. Be ready to do it whether it is convenient or inconvenient. Represent, confront, encourage with patience…

We don’t live in a clinical environment and the story of faith is seldom told in test-tube conditions. But we must tell it all the same. We have to be ready.

Peace and more – DEREK
