so why do we live as if we are not free?

Christ has set us free for freedom. Therefore, stand firm and don’t submit to the bondage of slavery again. – Galatians 5:1

Sunday morning my “Practical Christianity” class enjoyed a great discussion around the topic of freedom – in the context of Memorial Day.

We explored the idea that freedom is something we need to “live into” if we are going to fully understand what it means to be free. In other words – and just like our salvation – limiting our experience to that of passive recipients doesn’t begin to scratch the surface.

The people whose sacrifice we honor on Memorial Day died in order to secure something for the rest of us. Not material affluence, not a standard of living, but a standard for living.

I’ll wrap this short post with the following from Colossians. It suggests the question, “Why do we still live as if we are not free?” The way we live should reflect the value – and the cost – of the gift….

“If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the universe why do you live as if you still belonged to the world?” – Colossians 2:20

It’s a good question.
