Welcome to Earth, “Mr. T” #newbaby

GRANDCHILD NUMBER 3!!!

Friday was an amazing day. So rich, so much, so many threads I could pick up. But – with the backdrop of Leipzig to this story – there is only one thing I really need to talk about today, and that is the highly-anticipated arrival into this world (at 6:22 German time) of the new baby Maul.

Andrew and Alicia are affectionately known as The A-Team, so baby is, logically, “Mr. T.” Check here for their well-thought-out Baby Internet policy.

The story:

We were not sure when baby would make his debut, so Rebekah and I finally made hotel and concert reservations for a 36-hour getaway to celebrate our 40th anniversary.

We took The Saxonia to Leipzig and explored the city all day. Bach’s church, St. Thomas. The Bach museum. The church of St. Nicholas, epicenter of the peaceful/prayerful revolution that did so much to hasten 1989 and the end of oppression in East Germany.

I will write in more detail about Leipzig after we return to North Carolina.

Then, standing on the key 1989 marker, we got the news that Mr. T was on his way. So we checked out of the hotel we wouldn’t use, gave away our concert tickets, and tried to race our new grandson to the hospital. He beat us there by two and a half hours.

The Baby:

very happy daddy!!

He is perfect. Of course. His parents, Andrew and Alicia, are both lovely, intelligent, accomplished, beautiful people.

Already – 15 hours in – he loves to lay on his back on his grandmother’s lap and look up into her face as she talks to him; and she tells him stories he may not understand but absolutely understands, and will speak into his soul on a deep level and always be with him.

So, Welcome to Earth, Mr. T.

For now, that’s all I can say – without crying good tears of happiness and blessed joy. Enjoy these photos from yesterday and watch this space for more from German travels and family love.

May the peace of God, so richly expressed through the love of Jesus, seep into every ounce of your perfect being, Mr. T. And, same thing for the rest of you.

In love, and because of love – DEREK
