Rich in life and joy and enthusiasm! #PieInTheFace

IMG_E6776Be rich in good deeds, and generous and willing to share. In this way you will lay up treasure for yourselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that you may take hold of the life that is truly life. – 1 Timothy 6:18-19

Let me share a picture that captures everything that’s going on here at WFPC right now. This is Rebekah, talking to a group of new members as they make the public commitment to live as faithful followers of Jesus in the context of our church. Seventeen people joined today, representing various age groups and a variety of backgrounds. It was most definitely a beautiful sight.

Then, and maybe one of the reasons this place resonates with such life and vitality, the congregation witnessed possibly the first-ever pie-in-the-face moment I have ever seen during a worship service. But – curiously – it was entirely appropriate.

We have youth, and ministry leaders, who blend faith with natural enthusiasm in a most authentic way. It may have been Katherine Pieper who took the pie to the face, but it is the entire Children, Youth, and Family Ministry team who set the tone for love, acceptance, and joy. And it is something that infiltrates the entire congregation.

So I am grateful for the spirit of dynamic life in this place. I am thankful that so many people “get it.” I am full to overflowing with the joy of so much verve, energy, buoyancy, spirit, and pep.

If the gospel is not the gospel of love, and light and vibrant life – then it is not the gospel of Jesus. Life! Amazing, abundant, briming up and flowing over.

Enjoy a life-charged week! Personally I won’t be able to help myself! – DEREK
