Partying with the deacons! #AdventJoy

Over the first couple of weeks of Advent I have written a lot about light, and promise, and grace – talking about the way Jesus brings more than sweet stories and tradition at Christmas, he brings life itself.

Well for me, so much of what I think of as divine initiatives of grace and mercy, God’s active in-breaking into this world, are beautifully illustrated in my life with Rebekah.

So I have been trying to grab as many photos as I can of us together in front of Christmas trees, as a way of symbolizing how the compelling beauty of this season is brought into such clear focus in the good life we enjoy together.

Partying with the deacons:

This first picture (above) was taken at the Deacons’ Christmas party Thursday evening, the other at the Stephen Ministry party Tuesday night.

Both gatherings were beautiful examples of how the leadership of our church enjoy and care for each other. It’s fun to watch Rebekah work the room with authentic interest and natural grace – her genuine love for the people in our congregation shines through.

The work of the deacons (all the congregational care-giving ministries), and the Stephen ministers (who provide one-on-one care to individuals) creates an atmosphere that is positive, healing, and encouraging. In consequence, both Christmas gatherings were essentially a love-fest. What a great way to celebrate the season!

There are more party opportunities coming up, so I’m aiming to snag a few more illustrative pictures in front of blazing Christmas trees!

This weekend marks the beginning of the third week of Advent. On top of that we have our grandchildren here for a short visit. Anticipation is mounting! What an amazing time of the year.

Peace and blessings – DEREK
