The Definitive New Year’s Alexander Photo-Shoot

DSC_0593

We always give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you. We’ve done this since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all God’s people. – Colossians 1:3-4

New Year’s Day in Jacksonville featured a classic Alexander family gathering at Jesse and Heather’s home. As is our tradition, we all trooped out to the garden for the latest, up to date, family photo-shoot.

Here’s the interesting thing. It was a bright day so several people suggested we find a sunny spot for the portraits. But instead I found some shade. It’s a fact of seeing that there is typically a lot more clarity when things are not so bright.

Unfiltered sunshine has the effect of washing out color, and too much that is important tends to get lost in the shadows.

I’m going to grab on to that phrase – “a fact of seeing” – because I believe it’s going to help our ongoing “clarity in 2020” conversation.

The Pics:

Four of the five siblings showed up: Rachel, Rebekah, Joe, and Jesse – along with spouses Tom, Derek, Cheryl, and Heather. Six of the ten cousins were able to be there: the younger five (Jordan, Lindsay, Seth, Jared, Sarah) plus Reed. Rebekah’s cousin Ruth came for the day too. Then there was Samantha, the first serious “significant other” for the younger set.

Oh, and of course the two dogs, Sampson and Luna.

I’m labeling most of the images, but the family photos definitely all speak for themselves. First is the four Alexander Siblings plus Ruth, then with their spouses, followed by various groupings of family, the young people, and other puppies.

IMG_E8056The best photographs, of course, are the candid shots. But you can’t get that many people in one frame without the occasional posed group.

So enjoy, and think about what facts of seeing are going to help you unravel 2020 and bring some extra clarity to your life?

Peace – in every way – DEREK
