Trees, Flowers, and Light: a photo essay of Wake Forest

You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands! – Isaiah 55:12

I like to use photography in my writing to help set the scene, or tell the story. In today’s post the images are the story.

Yesterday afternoon, Friday, I didn’t feel exactly 100%. Instead of lying down, or taking a nap, I went for a walk – along with Rebekah – around the campus of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. It’s the historic location, until the campus was relocated in the 1950’s, of Wake Forest University.

I may have mentioned a few times over the years how much we enjoy living in this part of North Carolina, and how beautiful this community is. Well, if you didn’t believe me, or quite understand what I was talking about, these photographs should help. The campus is just a mile away from our home.

Here’s something to think about, then I will leave the pictures to do the talking. The world may feel ravaged right now, and humankind especially vulnerable, but understand this: Springtime is here in full force, life – insistent and persistent – is having its way, the ancient trees stand witness to generations of comings and goings in our lovely town, and God still speaks with the same timeless clarity the ages have not eroded one small fraction:
