Great food and complete nourishment – for our bodies and our souls

Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

“Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe.” – John 6:32-35

My posts over the past few days have generated a huge response, and I am grateful for all the compassion, the love, and the encouragement so many readers have shared. Thank you.

So today I’m offering a respite from the sadness via a brief detour into food. I don’t always remember to take pictures when a meal comes together just right (usually because the chef is the last person with the time or the opportunity to frame up a good shot!), but I do have a handful that should titillate those taste buds, motivate your culinary ambitions, and make you smile.

To me, great food is a metaphor for nourishment on every level:

  • Great food is a huge element of our commitment to health and fitness as a couple;
  • it reminds me that we should always be aware of what is “enough” and what is “too much;”
  • it brings home the point that what satisfies is not so much quantity as it is quality, that “junk” is not only disappointing it is ultimately deadly;
  • it speaks of sharing, and of community, and against isolation…

Here is some food from the past week. Most of these photos have notes of explanation. The main point is to A) enjoy the food pics! B) be inspired to be thoughtful, adventurous, healthy, and anything but stuck in a dull routine when it comes to the ways you satisfy your hunger – and that includes your soul.

Peace and good eating – DEREK
