a short message from the birthday boy

Since my youth, God, you have taught me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come.

Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens,
you who have done great things.
    Who is like you, God?

Pslam 71:17-19
– it’s a great day for a birthday!

It may be my birthday today, but I’ve had absolutely no time to settle in at the computer and write. I haven’t even taken any photographs of my grandchildren!

But David, Beks, and Geoffrey are here. The Campbell family rolled in around 7:00 yesterday evening and it is absolutely the best possible birthday present to have them here. It has been more than a year (thanks a lot, Covid) since we last saw them; and – seriously – I need nothing else.

– woohoo, new dishwasher!

The other exciting moment for today was the new dishwasher installation! “Thanks for my birthday present!” I told the plumber. Yes, I understand how spoiled I am to be able to use such labor-saving devices – it wasn’t until the dishwasher had been gone for a month that I understood just how much I use it.

So here I am, 65-years-old and grateful. Life is so very good. It is even better when we take the time to reflect, acknowledge how good it is, and simply be grateful – DEREK

P.S. – dad is still in the hospital. I will give an update in a separate post.
