Evening light in Wake Forest

God saw everything he had made: it was supremely good. There was evening and there was morning: the sixth day.

Genesis 1:31
– with Max Retriever Tuesday evening

Tuesday evening, after an amazingly delicious supper featuring the best sea-bass I have tasted in quite some time, I took Max Retriever for a relaxing walk in the waning light.

There is something about the glow of evening light in the springtime that adds both color and clarity to an already beautiful world.

Max has been with us long enough now to have developed a reflexive “anti-paparazzi” disposition that is almost comical. But I did manage to grab a few photos regardless.

It is that time of the year when everything is blooming, the temperatures are perfect, the birds are singing, and the windows and doors just have to be thrown wide open, to invite the fresh air in to clean everything out.

And in many ways this is soul-refreshing too.

Such a season – especially experienced in a community so picture-perfect as Wake Forest – tends to put everything else on hold. Which is why it is only now, well past ten o’clock in the morning, that I have finally made my way to my desk, and the beginnings of the day’s work.

Because this world is gloriously beautiful, and we live in this lovely place, and my children are happy, and the grandchildren are thriving – and I may well join the birds out there in their chorus of grateful song…

“God saw everything he had made: it was supremely good. There was evening and there was morning: the sixth day.”

In love, and because of love – DEREK

  1. Tell Max he is not alone. My father was a photographer and I got so tired of having my picture taken that I rarely every take a picture and if I do it is of nature and not people.
