I was thinking it was past time for another post about Rebekah’s visit in Bahrain when she sent me a few photos from Thursday afternoon in Manama. Andrew and Alicia had a half-day at school so they all met up – along with one of their teaching colleagues – for a late lunch at Café Lilou in a traditional quarter of the city.

In addition to the colorful splash of local flavor, what Rebekah enjoyed most was the sense of experiencing Andrew and Alicia in their milieu as Intentionally International World Citizens. Not just being overseas in an exotic location, but appreciating the enthusiasm they both have for their work as international teachers.

Andrew’s 5th grade teaching partner, Bianca (from South Africa) was a lively part of an animated conversation. Rebekah told me she enjoyed the opportunity to just sit back and soak up the lively, positive, professional repartee.

“It is so wonderful to be in their context and to see them thriving and passionate about teaching. I just sort of sat back and watched the three of them. Makes me happy.”

This weekend marks the beginnings of a school holiday for the American School of Bahrain, so I am looking forward to keeping up with some of the new exploring Rebekah will be able to jump into over her last few days.

As for me, I want to go with Rebekah to Café Lilou for brunch one day; would you look at that Eggs Benedict!

Continue to enjoy your epic adventures, Rebekah – but it is always so much more amazing when we get to do it together.
