The faithful love of the Lord never ends!Lamentations 3:22-24
His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in him!”
Rebekah and I are more than a little bummed this morning not to be over in Wilson. We are thankful that the prognosis is good – inasmuch as there is no need for surgery – but healing is just going to take too long, and requires her to stay off her feet, and there’s not a thing we can do to alter this tedious timeline.
So at 7:30, rather than jumping in the car and driving over for Early Light worship, I took my first cup of coffee out onto the deck and looked out over this lovely, peaceful neighborhood.
My personal devotional thoughts sounded something like this: There are a lot of “whys” I don’t understand, Lord, and I would be lying if I said we weren’t frustrated and sad this morning. Regardless, I am grateful for this beautiful new day, and seeing the sunlight pass through the millions of leaves gives me joy and a feeling of deep peace. There is so much around me to be thankful for. There is so much of life that is good.
We plan to join our Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church family for livestream worship at 10:30. Public worship, together in the context of community, is vitally important.
But my heart had already turned to worship first thing today, and God’s love, majesty, faithfulness, light, grace, and goodness have been front and center since that first sip of coffee, out on the deck, where everything else becomes framed in terms of our fundamental calling to “Love God and to enjoy God forever.”
Enjoy this beautiful May Sunday – DEREK
