Just a really Good Day: Gardening Part 2

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9
– Rebekah and Max with a pile of weeds

This morning’s post will be nice and easy. Essentially “Part Two” of yesterday’s entry about “Managing Two Gardens.”

The story is that of “a really good day.” Morning work in the garden followed by more in the afternoon – including the ubiquitous trip to the hardware store – and then, after relaxing with Rebekah on the deck, heading out for dinner at the Wake Forest location of Gonza Tacos Y Tequila.

Max, as per usual, made himself present in the garden. Probably his best moment (although very much against the rules) was when I took my mum for a walk down the street, and he got up – very slowly and stealthily – from where Rebekah was weeding and crept to the top of the driveway. Then, after he saw where I was, he galloped down the road.

I knew nothing of any of this until I felt a soft nose push up against my hand and looked down to see Max walking with me!

We continued to make progress outside. This time Rebekah concentrated her efforts in our small “secret garden” behind the house. It’s a great idea, in the middle of the largely unkept woods, to have a more manageable private space where the deer can’t get in and we can treat the space more like another “room.”

The big challenge there is to keep the green part green. The trees – which we love – make for too much shade to grow grass, but we are tired of simply mowing weeds. So options we are considering include artificial grass or clover. Personally I’m leaning toward the clover.

Tuesday really was – capped with having a relaxed dinner out with Rebekah – a perfect spring day in every way.

And I am grateful – DEREK
