“Fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out” (Romans 12:2 The Message).

Here’s an awesome story/testimony for the weekend: Saturday afternoon, walking along the seafront in Venice (Florida), my mum and my brother Geoff passed by a man sitting on a bench. He was reading a book.

“Look,” Geoff said (Geoff doesn’t let much get by him!), “He’s reading one of Derek’s books!”

So they stopped, doubled back, introduced themselves and said something about being related to the author.

Well it turns out that the man (He was reading “GET REAL: a spiritual journey for men“) had listened to me speak at the Leesburg Men’s Conference where I presented last weekend. The message, apparently, had touched him deeply and the experience had done a lot both to renew his faith and encourage him in his journey.

I spoke five times at the conference; but my unifying theme was, consistently, “What does it mean to be a man who lives a fully engaged Christian life?”

I’ve found myself considering that question a lot, recently. Or, as I put it in the concluding chapter of the manuscript I’m still working on, “The content of this book is about the process of Letting Life Loose”.

I feel so blessed that my thoughts sometimes work their way into other people’s heads, and even trickle down into their hearts and souls. We have such an amazing opportunity, every single day, to live our faith out loud; to tell the truth about the Gospel, simply by being; to live as if we mean it… because God most certainly does.
