May the God of endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude toward each other, similar to Christ Jesus’ attitude. That way you can glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ together with one voice. (Romans 15:5-6)
Early this morning, while searching for a picture of me playing guitar, I came across this image (above) from the beginning of August back in Brandon. I’m not going to use it as a nostalgia thing, but as a great example of what it means when people gather in community to celebrate God in their lives.
That’s one of the best definitions I’ve heard of for worship: “To gather in community to celebrate God in our lives.”
WORSHIP = To gather in community to celebrate God in our lives.
The word “Worship” sometimes comes off as archaic, or formulaic, or comes draped with the stereotypical rituals of whatever tradition we found ourselves in when we first learned about God.
But today, all I want us to think about is simply celebrating God! To receive God’s grace, mercy, and sin-shattering love. And to take the time to invest ourselves in celebration, with great thanksgiving and abundant joy!

I’ve always thought of song (a large portion of worship) as a version of prayer. Especially whenmy non-denomination or Pentecostal friends make fun of we Presbyterians for using organs, being slow, etc. it is prayer time for me. To a certain extent, it should be reverent. At least for me…I’m not going to tell you how to pray, so don’t tell me. Just my two cents. Enjoy worship today. I know I am looking forward to it for the first time since 9/1/13!
