Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day. – Genesis 1:31
Monday morning, while I didn’t actually do the Hokey-Pokey (see yesterday’s post!) I did approach the day with a “put my whole self in” mentality. The result was being able to see more clearly what beauty there is at every turn, in even the most routine of experiences.
I’m travelling this morning, so I’ll make this very brief, with just this one example from Monday morning’s short drive into the wintry countryside just east of Wake Forest.
Look how beautiful! Even the bleak January landscape; even the asphalt road with teetering telephone poles alongside; even an odd piece of dirt-moving equipment parked by the road; even the partly overcast sky, gray and white and vaguely blue; even the rutted, barren fields and the grayish clouds in the uneven, broken light.
The balance of the day involved a long drive into Florida. Rain; heavy traffic; mile upon mile of I-95; a traffic-jam coming out of Georgia; potential tedium. Look how beautiful! A day in the car with Rebekah; listening to music, holding hands, sharing stories, enjoying this moment.
Today it’s Tuesday. Open your eyes. Pay attention to fresh initiatives of grace. Look how beautiful! Thank God for another new day!
