Tales from the Great Adventure

a journal of living-like-we-mean-it, by Derek Maul

The one who was sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this, because these words are true and can be trusted” (Revelation 21:5).

There’s no real time available for posting today, so I’ll reprise the “four-photo” format.

It’s another spectacular spring day in North Carolina. The morning sun shining through the fresh green leaves brings light all the way through my eyes and into my spirit, and I am simply glad to be alive and grateful for this life.

IMG_1536I met a friend in downtown Wake Forest for coffee – early, made it home in time to have another mug on the deck with Rebekah,  and now I’m taking care of some writing tasks before meeting another friend for lunch. It’s all good.

GARDENING: We’re continuing to make good progress in the garden. Even my little VW Golf has been drafted for dirt-hauling service. We need a good soaking rain to help with all the new plantings, but there is such an impetus to life around here (and in our souls) at the moment that I believe just about anything will grow.

REMODELING: The sense of newness and possibility has even made its way to the guest bathroom, where Rebekah completed a surprisingly refreshing remodel last week.

IMG_1518It’s amazing what fresh paint, scouring, restored grout, a few new fittings, and imagination can do to a dull space.

Rebekah’s success reminds me that reformation is an ongoing process, that even tired, battered spaces can be restored, and that there is always hope for freshness and renewal.

I’ll leave you to draw your own spiritual parallels; I’ve got to get busy with my next assignment.

Peace – always – DEREK
