When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world.Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12
I’m heading out early today and only have time for a short post. So I thought I’d share my morning experience of grabbing hold of a short thought from scripture, and simply letting it soak in.
Every new day we have this opportunity to either “get out of the gate” via a beneficial launch sequence… or to begin with one misstep that leads to another. It turns out that what happens in those initial moments is entirely up to us; we can absolutely choose how we engage the first few minutes, thereby potentially impacting our direction, our disposition, and our outcomes.
Given the undeniable importance of how each morning begins, I always spend a short time in prayer and then just a few minutes to engage what I like to describe as “a life-charged scripture passage.”
“I am the light of the world!” Jesus tells the people in John 8, “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life!”
What a great visual to go with my morning walk with Scout Labradoodle. Light from the rising sun is already flooding Wake Forest, as the world turns toward its source of life and energy. What might this day look like if I – just as deliberately – rotate in the direction of Jesus, letting his light provide me with life and energy?
But I can’t do this standing still. I have to follow. The Way of Jesus is a constant journey. Walk in the light!
Have an abundantly blessed day; I already am – DEREK
