After a long summer, some serious hesitation, and – finally – a few episodes of blatant backsliding, North Carolina has finally turned the corner into the cooler, clearer weather that makes this time of the year so sweet around Wake Forest.

The sky has been picture-perfect Carolina Blue, and color is starting to creep into the trees. It’s walking weather, and I’m doing as much as I can. Then, when I’m out, breathing in the clean air and enjoying the day, I can’t help but notice how lovely the street looks, or the front of the house, the sky, the trees above the deck, the light…

That’s it, really. It’s all about light. The light we carry with us – the beautiful life of God – it illuminates the world we inhabit, step by step and moment by moment. I can’t help but sing, I can’t help but pray, I can’t help but give thanks.
