“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24-26
It’s not an easy task to select images for this week’s edition of “Five Photo Friday.” There has been any number of memorable photo-ops and they all have a story to share.
Of course, and we have discussed this before, there is a difference between what is simply a beautiful picture and then one that tells a story. So today’s gallery of images is hopefully going to have something to say.
First, there are two photos from essentially the same spot by our mailbox. I looked at our house (photo right) and then rotated a few degrees left toward my parents’ next door.
The story here is the woodsy setting, how everything is growing like crazy, the delicious cool air (57-degrees for my morning walk today) and the privilege of living in such a beautiful place. August will mark six years and I still pinch myself some days and ask, “Are we really living in North Carolina?”
Sitting in with the band:
This weekend I get to sit in again with the WFPC Praise Band. It’s a little intimidating because the musicianship is of such a high standard and I’m going to have to practice hard to be ready.
But rehearsal Tuesday was so much fun, especially prepping for the offertory music I’m going to attempt. Long story short a few weeks ago my friend Mark shared a track from a 1969 album and the song really touched me. The band was the short-lived Blind Faith – featuring Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood; the song is In the Presence of the Lord.
There will be bass, drums, rhythm, and even Hammond organ to flesh out a potentially authentic sound. I’m both excited and scared all at the same time.
Monte Carlo and Le Mans:
Finally, there are two more pics from the epic car rally Monday. I can’t say enough about how much fun it was to drive the vintage TR6 and MGA. And our friends were so gracious to let me.
This is a post you will want to go back to, just for the car photos – Why drive when you can “motor”?.
So it’s been that kind of a week:
- A beautiful inspirational Sunday at church…
- An amazing Monday driving around with the top down…
- soul-affirming music on Tuesday with band rehearsal…
- strong fellowship with the men’s group Wednesday evening…
- gardening in a lovely setting Thursday…
- cool temps and sunshine this morning in the company of Rebekah…
Just a few photos to help tell the story.
We live in an amazing world, so let’s take the opportunity to be amazing too. Peace and more – DEREK
