Seeing our way clearly in 2020

I have been thinking – and praying – about my “theme” for 2020, the filter through which I pour my words, the lens I look through, the spiritual truth that will anchor my thinking and my writing and my teaching and my speaking this year.
Two scriptures came to mind:
If you died with Christ to the way the world thinks and acts, why do you submit to rules and regulations as though you were living in the world? – Colossians 2:20
“I’ve said these things to you so that you will have peace in me. In the world you have distress. But be encouraged! I have conquered the world.” – John 16:33

We absolutely have to engage this New Year with more clarity when it comes to what it means to follow Jesus. So I want this blog to be a place where clear thinking and twenty-twenty vision help us to discern more and more what an authentic Christian life looks like.
One of the many blessings I enjoy is being part of an extended family that is centered in and defined by faith. I have a context from which to speak that is deep and wide.
Our celebration of this New Year was a family event where we are all committed to moving into 2020 in the context of these words from Jesus: “Be encouraged! I have conquered the world.” And from Paul: “We are not subject to follow the way the world acts and thinks!”
I would value being a part of your journey through 2020, to serve as an inspiration and a guide. Watch this space – DerekMaul.blog – and let’s have an ongoing conversation about what it means to see clearly, and to follow Jesus.
