when our ideas fall flat…

Get all the advice and instruction you can,
so you will be wise the rest of your life.

 You can make many plans,
but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.

Proverbs 19:20-21

Just a quick post this morning. Short and to the point. I have way too many details and appointments to deal with today, so I’m going to have to drop something in this blog, click “publish”, and run.

This series of photos should do the trick, taken yesterday when Rebekah and I were in the garden.

“Hey Max,” I said. “How about a selfie together?”

So of course, having lived with me long enough now to be thoroughly done with such intrusion by the paparazzi, Max failed to cooperate. But I insisted, and this is the result.

This happens in my life all the time. I have my ideas as to how things should go, what the outcome is going to be, and who (me) is in charge. But then reality happens and it is not my way at all.

So I love the way this passage from Proverbs links “getting all the learning and advice and instruction we can” with God’s purposes. It’s not as if God is going to be contrary regardless of our efforts, so why try…? No, it is more that God expects us to be well prepared, and open to learning, and moving toward wisdom. Then of course we are more aligned with God’s purposes.

What God wants is a partnership, not to ride roughshod over our lives. The more we learn, the more we put ourselves in a place of instruction, the wiser we become – then, the more we find ourselves in God’s will.

Otherwise it’s going to be like a photoshoot with Max!

Peace – DEREK
