For the beauty of the earth
For the glory of the skies
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise
It is always good to get out and play golf with friends. It is even better to do so while supporting a worthy cause. When the tournament is hosted at an amazing facility such as The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation, the day is all these good things and more.
This is a golf course I have driven past for eight years hoping I would have the opportunity to play.
So Tuesday morning, thanks to the sponsorship of The Lonnie and Carol Poole Family Foundation and their commitment to WE CARE (benefitting The Soldiers & Airmen Assistance Fund, Inc., the USO, Purple Heart Homes, The Joel Fund and the WSMGA Scholarship Fund), I was finally able to play one of the most spectacular, creative, and challenging 18-holes in the area.

Military presence:
Our team – Keith Thomas, George Dudley, Rick Mayo, and me – was joined by active-duty armed forces member Greg Scott, who was there representing the many families WE CARE is raising money to support.
Between us, we actually played some remarkably good golf.
But, other than the remarkable generosity of The Poole Foundation and other sponsors, it had to have been the venue that took the top prize.
Enjoy these photographs: it’s worth taking a few minutes to scroll through and the topography of the site really is spectacular. We started at #10, and I will identify each hole in the caption.
Peace – Derek
