The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
Psalm 24
the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.
Fortunately today is “Photo Friday,” so I know exactly what I’m supposed to be posting! Generally, I seem to have hit a dry spell in my writing so I need all the help I can get.
Of course even “Photo Friday” won’t do much for me if I am not more focused when it comes to taking pictures.
I’m wondering if I should maybe impose a guided “take pictures” schedule on myself, kind of like a job, just to make sure I constantly have new material at my disposal.
Planned Spontaneity:
I’d like to simply be spontaneous; but, and I think we have all had this experience, spontaneity seems to happen more when it comes in response to some kind of a framework.
It sounds kind of obvious when I talk about it, but that amazing spontaneous photograph of Rebekah and me riding camels in front of the Great Pyramids would not have happened had we not booked the trip, boarded a plane, got on the tourbus that morning, then paid our guide twenty bucks to hook us up with the dromedaries who gave us our rides.
In the moment, the decision to go beyond the Polaroid image (that came with the ride) and hand off my Nikon and a $5 bill to a passing Egyptian was spontaneous. But spontaneity in response to structure.
As usual, I am thinking out loud as I write. I’m not sure what I’ll be doing to facilitate my spontaneity over the next few months; but I will plan to share the results here. And if I come up with anything really amazing I will share it over at DerekMaulPhotography.blog.
So enjoy these Photo Friday images. My mother with Max, the back deck, our grandson Geoffrey, the hydrangea, the garden, Memorial Day picnic food. Just a reflection of the week.
Enjoy the weekend. Love and peace – DEREK
