Deep calls to deep
in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me.

By day the Lord directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.

Maybe this morning’s post should be a series of oils or watercolors. The sea and the sky over the past 24 hours have certainly made me wish I could paint.

It’s interesting, even though I grew up in arguably the greatest maritime nation in history, I have never been a natural seafarer.

I couldn’t even swim until I was 14. I used to get seasick crossing the English Channel. I am a landlubber for sure.

Though I am a seasoned traveler who loves the oceans, the beaches, and all those liminal places where time brushes up against eternity, sailing has never been in my blood.

But these colorful waters, these beautiful waves, these spectacular skies, these endless horizons… they have captivated me and speak to my soul.

Even late at night, slipping out of port in Aruba, the dark waters and black skies offered an eloquent backdrop to our day.
