Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
Proverbs 3:5-6
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
It felt a little strange waking up in Wake Forest this morning. Rebekah and I are spending a couple of nights over at our house here, getting a few things done. Max was especially excited for his morning walk, revisiting favorite smells, constantly looking around for the familiar.
There are too many half-completed tasks to do here. Lots of branches and other debris down in the yard, more paperwork to handle form my mother’s recent passing, boxes and personal effects to deal with from her house. None of it will look noticeably better when we return to Tarboro.
Walking Max, I was surprised to feel a little home-sickness for this neighborhood, for this house, for the comfortable familiarity. We have been away long enough now I think to be a little caught in between; to miss our home but to not yet not quite be completely re-homed. A little lost, a little wistful, a little bit of yearning, a little unsettled.
Make no mistake, we feel completely welcomed in Tarboro and – as I hope you can tell from my posts – we are embracing the church and the community without holding back.
Meanwhile, for today at least, we will be trying to get a few things checked off the “to-do” list over here.
Saturday, probably around lunchtime, we will be “all in” again, 65 miles or so to the east.
And here is my invitation – especially if you have yet to attend a worship service over at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church (at the corner of Saint Patrick and East Saint James in Tarboro) – it would do our hearts good to see you there this Sunday… any Sunday.
11:00, in one of the most beautiful sanctuaries you will ever see. And, yes, Rebekah will be preaching.
Peace, and more peace – DEREK

Moving is (as you know) very stressful. Familiar places bring us a feeling of peace. Glad you can return to this place from time to time. Removing the items belonging to our parents to someone or someplace else is a difficult task. Wishing you the time to do this at a pace of your choosing. Good Luck.
So glad you two are happy in Tarboro at HMPC. Please don’t forget the other HMPC, the one in Raleigh that will welcome you both like returning best friends. We think of you often and pray for a fulfilling time away, but a return to look forward to.
Thanks, Susan. We appreciate the prayers, and value all of you deeply 🙏❤️
