Up in the Air

– the first leg of the journey to Ohio

If I ride the wings of the morning,
if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
and your strength will support me.

Psalm 139:9-10

Dateline Wadsworth, Ohio: Photo Friday gets a bit of a boost today because I’m traveling. I believe I will save the week’s collection of “extra” images and share them later. This post will just be the story of Thursday.

The day started with the usual serenity of a good walk with Max. It’s been a week since we last took the path by the Tar River and it was a good morning, with the light just right and the mist coming off the water in the cool cool air.

Here’s a good image of the view under the two bridges, with another in the gallery below.

After breakfast it was time to pack the last few items in my carry-on and drive over to Wake Forest and then the Raleigh-Durham Airport.

Travel is always more fun when Rebekah is along, but at the same time I really do enjoy these opportunities to speak in other towns.

My joke is that, once in a while, people actually read my books. Then they invite me to speak. Why? Because for some reason they believe if I’m a good writer I can also speak in public. I always accept the invitation so I can disabuse them of their misunderstanding!

So Thursday I flew to Baltimore and then Cleveland, where I was welcomed by Chris and Dan, a couple of the leaders in the men’s ministry at The Christian Church here.

My travel went well. Southwest Air did a great job, neither Boeing 737 lost any important bits in the air, and both flights were only around 70% full.

And in Baltimore, where I had enough of a layover to grab a decent meal, I did what was only proper and had crab cakes for dinner. The food was delicious.

But I am tired from travel and anxious to prep for my first talk, Friday evening. Enjoy these photographs and have a most wonderful Friday. Peace and more peace – DEREK
