It’s All About the Light! – Amazing Images from Calvary Church

– Calvary Episcopal Thursday evening

Jesus spoke to the people again, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me won’t walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12
– Evening light in the churchyard

Okay, friends, we have had this conversation before. But I want to have it again because the foundational point of this subject is so very important!

It’s all about the light!

So Thursday evening after dinner Rebekah and I went out for a short walk in the amazingly beautiful spring evening. We circled the Presbyterian block – our church is a lovely inviting garden – then meandered through the arboretum/churchyard that surrounds our neighbors, Calvary Episcopal Church. Our house sits at the corner of both beautiful campuses.

The moment we stepped through the gate at Calvary the clock struck seven, the light shifted, and everything changed.

Like I said, it’s all about the light.

As an “eyes-wide-open” photo enthusiast, I was literally compelled to grab some images. Many people ask me if I have a “secret” to photography, and I always have to say, “It’s about paying attention to the light.”

Well, paying attention period. Then noting the relationship of the world around us to the light.

I’m sure you already know what I am going to say next. But just in case, I will say it anyway. Jesus is the light: “I am the light of the world. If you follow me you are not going to be walking in darkness! Instead, you will have the light of life!”

But if we are not paying attention, we are going to miss Christ’s work in this world time and time and time again; if we are not walking with him we are going to get lost in the darkness.

There is so much in the way of darkness. But, Jesus is all the light we need. In fact, the more of us who walk alongside Jesus – meaning he is lighting our way too – then the more completely the darkness will be defeated.

This is our invitation. This is our opportunity! – DEREK

  1. I have never been to North Carolina, but seriously a few months ago I had a dream I was at that church! Not lying and in the dream it was nighttime and there was some kind of church party. That was the exact place!🤯 Alasun🌞
