“In the Big Inning…” Baseball and Art and Community and More
“In the Big Inning God created the heaven and the earth…” – Genesis 1:1

If I were doing anything other than a travelogue at this point I would break today’s events into at least two posts. But that won’t work because tomorrow will be something new and then I’d never catch up.
So the morning was a Science, Technology, Education and Arts event at the Midland Center for the Arts.
David, Beks and Mr. T. got to experience a wide variety of hands-on learning activities and everyone had a great time. It’s a testimony to the kind of focus this town has on cultural education, as well as evidence of how much endowed facilities and programs can do for the quality of life in a community like this.

In the evening (talking of community) we enjoyed all the activities surrounding the local baseball team, the Great Lakes Loons. Promotions, silliness, give-aways, water slides, seats on the grassy area instead of bleachers, ball-park food – and even a baseball game.
The local team won, everyone made a lot of noise, the kids had a blast, and afterwards there was a pretty good fireworks show (here is the Grande finale).
Everything you could want in a classic American community and more.

Play Hard and Live Free
Looking around (especially after the singing of the National Anthem) – seeing all the good people enjoying the beautiful evening, having fun together, treating one another with respect, watching “America’s game”, playing hard and living free – it occurred to me that this is fundamentally a good country populated by decent people who want to live in freedom and peace… and I felt another glimmer of hope.
I pray that you feel it too.
Let’s walk away from all the nonsense associated with politics and deception and self-promotion, and just hang out together watching people play ball. Play together, sing the National Anthem together, worship God in the context of our community, cook some hot dogs and share some apple pie.

This is America! Come on, friends. We’re in this together!
“Batter up…”
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” – Genesis 1:31
What a fabulous experience for all ages. What’s in the big blue tote bag from the science center? Curious minds want to know.
literally just air. It’s an air sleeve. They run with it and it fills. A lesson on relative pressure when in motion.
