Looking Through My Lens: August in 31 Photographs

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but they are all from the same Spirit. There are different ways to serve, but we serve the same Lord. And there are different ways that God works in people, but it is the same God who works in all of us to do everything. Something from the Spirit can be seen in each person. The Spirit gives this to each one to help others. – 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Every moment in life is unique. This is one of the reasons photography can be so difficult if you are trying to tell a story.

So what I want to capture – and share – from August is this rich tapestry of experiences that made up Thirty-one days in the life of Derek and Rebekah.

Our grandson Mr. T., dancing in the Michigan rain (later you will see him in Krakow, Poland). The ongoing saga of renovation over at 408 St. Patrick Street. The beauty of this historic neighborhood. The congregation of believers at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church. The swell of the Tar River after a tropical storm passes through. The rural landscape of Eastern North Carolina. The constant packing from our move. The grandchildren in Orlando and in Poland. The joy that Rebekah and I share – from our 45th anniversary to simply being together. The privilege and the love of enjoying rich friendships.

It is a kaleidoscope of life. Look through the eyepiece, turn it around, and feel the color and the depth and the scintillating aliveness. Join us in our commitment to not only enjoy this good life but to acknowledge the Source and the Sustainer and the Savior.

This weekend, as we take pause for Labor Day and the traditional “end of summer” deep breath, let’s all take time to give thanks for what we have here in this amazing nation.

Tomorrow, I pray that I will see you in church – DEREK
