Living in “The Between”

Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom…

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. – Psalm 90:13-14

Y’all may have noticed that this week I’m posting both A) a little later in the day and B) a lot less in the way of words.

The reason is we’re still sleeping and mostly eating on Saint James but the Internet has already moved over here to the Saint Patrick house. Then I can’t possibly come over without an SUV full with boxes and of course another and before I know it it’s noon here on the East Coast.

So just the one view and it’s not even really that good a photo. But the story it tells is of the new outlook. I was cleaning up having actually cooked on the stove for the first time and looked through the screen door at the setting sun.

The kitchen where I’m standing is beautiful and new. The sunset in the distance (above) is a lovely display of color. But in between is the world. It’s downtown in the historic district so immediately behind us is a lawyer’s office, featuring a (thankfully) carefully made and porous parking area. Behind us and to the right is parking for county fleet vehicles – not too pretty!

– life is always offering new adventures!

It makes me realize that it is in The Between – block after block and then mile after mile of real life that I negotiate as I move toward the sunset – where God has called me to live and to love and to share light.

This is the start of a new chapter. What is going to happen when we turn the page? – DEREK
