Lord, you are my God;
I will exalt you and praise your name,
for in perfect faithfulness
you have done wonderful things,
things planned long ago – Isaiah 25
Worship nourishes; worship heals; worship is necessary for wholeness…
I believe Sundays are a good time to shift our thinking away from the insistent noise of the moment and into the long view. It is too easy to be distracted by the immediate – the heat, the noise, the details, the demands, the tasks to be done… the gnats.
Sunday mornings provide an opportunity – an imperative – to refocus.
Rebekah and I practice our morning devotions each day at the end of breakfast. But there is another level of peace and intention when we take the time to get ready, to make our way to church, to sit in the sanctuary, to close our eyes in prayer and preparation, to listen to the call to worship, then to join in with the congregation in prayer and a hymn of praise.
Worship is not about my preference in music, my particular ecclesiastical tradition, my taste in preaching style or if the church in question espouses what I have judged to be correct doctrine. No, worship is about God; worship is a gift I can offer that blesses God; worship is good for my soul.
Worship is a gift given and a gift received.
Worship nourishes; worship heals; worship is necessary for wholeness – DEREK
