Making My Way Home (Pods, Tunes & the Sky)

– I-95, South Carolina

For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. – 2 Corinthians 5:1

– Saturday morning walk in Winter Garden…

Typically, a ride down to Orlando is a team effort, with Rebekah on board and the enjoyment of a long day together in the car. But this was a solo run back up I-95 so the day involved more music and podcasts than usual.

So Saturday I listened to “The History of Iran” by Dan Snow (really interesting), an episode of “This American Life,” this weekend’s “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” news quiz, and the latest “Criminal” story by Phoebe Judge featuring the harrowing tale of a woman who went “off the grid” with her two daughters to escape a vindictive and unhinged ex-husband by leaving the state and creating new identities.

Classic Road-Trip Rock-n-Roll

– 30-seconds of Procol Harum

Then there was the “Classic Vinyl Top 100” channel on satellite radio that fed me a steady diet of amazing music such as “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin (I had forgotten just how excellent the extended, album-length, version is), assorted ZZ Top songs (ZZ Top play ideal road tunes), Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb,” “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple and one of my all-time favorites, Procol Harum’s “A Whiter Shade of Pale.”

– North Carolina

Also, with various atmospheric systems moving around, the sky was worth watching just about the entire day. I snapped a few representative vistas in Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina. I especially love the contrast between the deep blues of the sky and the wispy whiteness of the various formations and configurations made by the clouds.

So, not a lot in today’s post, just the journey home.

– Florida

But coming home is more than enough. There are a lot of people who could use the assurance and the positive anticipation and the welcoming love of a good journey home – and I pray so hard that they find their way.

May God’s presence and grace and mercy bless all those who are seeking peace, and help them to find their way home again – or maybe for the first time – DEREK
