Saturday was “get settled back in” day here at home. Home, of course, is and always will be anywhere Rebekah and I can be together. At the moment that happens to be Tarboro and so far as we are concerned it always will be.
Arriving back at the house it was good to see a little more progress in the big landscape/hardscape project. I wanted, of course, to be able to pull into a completed new driveway, but apparently the weather, especially the most welcome rain, has been winning out over construction.
Regardless, we are a few steps farther along and we anticipate more in the immediate future.
Then, Saturday morning, we were reunited with Max. Mr. Max may be getting ancient, but he is always happy to spend some quality time with his friends at Donna’s house over in Youngsville. He is, not surprisingly, over the moon to be back with his mom and dad and home here in Tarboro.
The Bike and the River:
Finally, the bike and the river. It had been three weeks since I last took a ride so Saturday I squeezed in two relaxed and easy workouts, one in the morning and one after supper. I want to build up again carefully over the next week and hopefully be ready for a longer outing by Friday.
Then, I don’t know how long it has been since I saw this much water in the Tar. The river is full, running at a steady pace, and looking like its old self again.
So I have all these reasons to be happy that we are home. The house, the landscaping, Max, my bike, the river…. Then this morning we will be even more at home when we walk over to Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church and hug a bunch of our dear friends.
We may love this town, but we love the people even more, and of course you can’t separate the two. Tarboro people are our family and this is our place. So we are glad to say, in every possible way, that we are home.
