Those who live at the ends of the earth
Psalm 65:8
stand in awe of your wonders.
From where the sun rises to where it sets,
you inspire shouts of joy.
It is fitting (as we are – sadly – leaving Pensacola Beach this morning) to focus on some of the evening photographs.
The light, the sunset, the movement from early evening and into dusk, it is all completely unique every day depending on the clouds, the humidity, the temperature, the swell of the ocean, the speed of the wind… and a hundred other variables that work together to ensure that no two days can ever end in the same way.
Friday, as our last full day here on the island slipped away, Rebekah and I drove out to Langdon Beach at the Fort Pickens end of the Gulf Islands National Seashore.
Langdon Beach is special because it was our favorite destination as a family. We enjoyed so many afternoons and evenings there with Andrew and Naomi, then several Sunday school parties with our Kaleidoscope class in the mid-late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
When the sun approaches the horizon – or when the Earth’s rotation pulls us away from the light of the sun and into darkness – the colors on the water change dramatically. From blue to deep blue then from deep blue to a light and translucent blue diamond shade of iridescence.
So Rebekah and I sat on a beach towel and we enjoyed the waning light. I did a quick immersion into the ocean and I felt baptized as it were into the refreshing light.
The other early evening photographs come from around the beach house we have enjoyed so much this week.
It’s time to hit the road now and I really do not want to leave. This has been one amazing week. More stories and photographs to come.
In love and because of love – DEREK
