To be honest, it’s always mystified me why church attendance goes down in the summer. Sure, when you’re on a boat it’s impossible to show up at church building; but the majority of the time, no matter where we are, there’s pretty much nothing that can stop us from gathering with some community of faith, some church, some body of believers.
I’ll go a step farther, and say that the church – your church, my church, The Church – needs its men to be not only grounded in good preaching and teaching, but also grounded in authentic spiritual community.
This is no world for hesitant Christians. If we are not motivated and equipped to move from peripheral spectators to deliberate disciples – as daily followers of Jesus – then we have no hope of moving forward spiritual
