Once in a while I let Scout Labradoodle share a few choice insights here at “The Life-Charged Life.” So here’s today’s version of the dog blog. Enjoy.
BE STILL: First, I think Scout is a Psalm 46 kind of a dog. “Be still and know…” I’m not sure how much she knows, but she sure is an expert at being still.
“Be still, and know that I am God…”
Today her being still is more along the lines of, “If I lay still enough then you won’t notice I’m breaking the ‘No dogs on the bed’ rule.” Regardless, she’s a master at relaxing, any time any place, and I think it has a lot to do with the next quality, which is “trust.”
TRUST: You see, Scoutie is also a Proverbs 3:5 dog.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
I might be fairly competitive when it comes to the “be still” stuff, but I have a long way to go to catch up with Scoutie in the way of trust. She teaches me so much.
Scout stands by her bowl in the firm belief that I’m going to fill it. She lets me take her to the vet. She takes really yucky medicine without a fuss. She’ll sit and stay when she can see no reason for it. She lets Rebekah brush and comb her where she’s so sensitive and we know it has to hurt like crazy… But she trusts completely.
ATTENTIVENESS: Finally, our huge galumphing Labradoodle is a Revelation 3:20 Labradoodle, through and through.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock.”

She’s attentive; she listens for her master’s (and mistress’s) voice. She waits patiently. She sits by the window for hours staring into the front driveway, guarding the dogged belief that one of us will eventually come home. She always has one eye half-open and her ear ready and attuned to hear.
One dog, three spiritual insights. Woof!
