Grandchildren are the crown of the elderly, and the glory of children is their parents.
Proverbs 17:6
Wednesday’s Big Moment of Wonderful for Rebekah and me was picking up our Orlando grandchildren and taking them out for a relaxed dinner with our daughter, Naomi.
Their other grandparents are in town, so we enjoyed the opportunity for a brief visit with Sue and Craig before loading the children in the Subaru. Then we made our way to the Lazy Dog Restaurant for some most excellent vittles while catching up with David, Beks and Geoffrey, learning all about their latest adventures.
David is exploring directing and production via a filmmaking class in 8th grade, creating some interesting and innovative material. Beks is excelling in her cello playing and excited about the coming end-of-the-year orchestra concert. Geoffrey is progressing in all areas, enjoys counting everything out loud and is getting a lot out of his VPK program at school.
Rebekah and Derek are more than thankful for this opportunity to hug each one and revel in the fact of them. These children are absolutely brimming with possibility and promise, and this world needs them and the hope that they offer in every imaginable way.
Our gift to Tomorrow:
Whatever we can do to support and encourage our amazing grandchildren is more than a privilege, it is a gift to tomorrow.
I reference and rephrase the following idea often (not only because it is true but because it is so very important): “The only direction time moves is forward. So what we do next is – always – the most consequential decision we can make, as well as our opportunity to embrace God’s best, both for us and for those we love.”
In faith and in constant hope – DEREK
