come into the light

IMG_3388My Sunday invitation this week comes to you courtesy of the morning light. This picture (right) was yesterday’s dawn initiative, easing up over the horizon and bathing the pasture in newness.

A light mist clung tentatively to the damp grass; the cows munched their way around the fence; light traffic started to move along Lithia-Pinecrest; the birds offered their voices. The morning had its way.

All creation responds in some fashion to the invitation of the light. The light presents itself, recharged, every morning, and creation breaks into newness, again and again.

The exception is humankind. People – as a rule – play scant attention to the miracle of new light that broke through into time and space in Bethlehem, that broke the burden of sin at Calvary, and that broke through the cold embrace of the grave that morning in the Garden Tomb.

Because of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
to shine on those living in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace. (Luke 1)

That’s what we’ll be celebrating this morning at church!

  • Celebrating life!
  • Celebrating light!
  • Celebrating the victory of love!
  • Celebrating Jesus!
  • Celebrating The Rising Sun, come to us from heaven!

First Presbyterian Church meets for morning worship at 8:30, and 11:00 – DEREK
