This weekend – Friday-Saturday – I was privileged to help lead a Men’s retreat with a group of faithful disciples from First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland.
We talked extensively about what it means to make the shift from being “church members” to “Followers of The Way of Jesus.”
Every time I’m involved with this kind of event I find myself encouraged. I’m encouraged by the faith; I’m encouraged by the commitment; I’m encouraged by the stories; I’m encouraged by the honestly; I’m encouraged by the love; and I’m encouraged by the determination.
CHARGE of LIFE: We built our conversation around the “10 Life-charged Words.” Jesus; Excellence; Passion; Capacity; Scripture; Holiness; Clarity; Prayer; Authenticity; Community.
And here’s what’s cool. I returned home, after a retreat that lasted just 22 hours, with the firm conviction that every single man in attendance “got” what I was talking about. I’m convinced that my words and The Word landed on good soil, that God has launched some serious work, and that 100% of the men will grow – already are growing – in their faith.
This process of walking with God, and of living into God’s purposes, is a constant adventure! I am blessed and I am grateful. I wonder what today will bring? – DEREK

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1)
Wonderful posting! Wonderful Friday and Saturday, what refreshment! Thanks for all you do and thanks for the Joshua quote. Moses didn’t bring us God’s SUGGESTIONS, did he? Peace, Thanks, and Blessings!
